I have only been using the software for a brief time, but have used three or four other products for invoicing. I switched because I needed a better way of keeping track of my time and how it was assigned to various tasks. Your product does that well.
However, the invoicing component seems, how shall I put it, ... very basic. Several examples of things I do miss from my previous invoicing software:
1. I do not see how to modify the Heading information on my company. I would like to make the company name larger and in bold print, or color. 2. It apparently will not produce a detailed invoice with the charges ordered by date. The summary invoice does this, but not the detailed one. At least I do not see how to do it. 3. I would like the option to remove the file reference at the bottom of the invoice pages. 4. The tasks names I use are quite short, such as Email or Contracts. The column width in the detailed invoice is too wide leaving a lot of white space. However, the Description column appears to be the same width, and this one I would like much larger for the detail I have there. So, I guess I am saying I would like to be able to edit the column widths. 5. My expenses are printed first in the detailed invoice. I would like to print my professional time first, and place the expenses last. This is just a personal preference, but I am sure others would want to organize their invoices their own way. 6. Perhaps this could all be summed up by saying I would like a much more complete report writer that would let me edit the reports rather than having to accept one of your formats.
I am presently emailing all my invoices, just using a PDF printer option and attaching the .pdf invoice files to an email. So it is possible to do that now without much bother.
As I get along with this further, I will no doubt have more comments, as I can see some things that would make the software easier to use. But I will save those comments for later. If I have missed an important point in how to use this product, please let me know. I did read the manual and go through the tutorials, but I am over 60, so no doubt my brain cells are slowly shutting down.
Thanks..........

A good portion of my Tasks and Projects are simply "OnGoing". I would like to see support for this type of time-logging. When setting up the Project and/or Task, I think we should have a Status named "OnGoing" (or equivalent). Once this Status is used, the End Date field should not be relevant (until the status is changed to something other than “OnGoing”). Thanks - Jeremy

Another feature that would be very convenient is to enhance the Timer to allow notes to be added/updated while the timer is running. I work in a hosting environment, some of my logged tasks can take a couple of hours and have a number of steps. I would like to be able to add to the in-progress Task's notes without pausing or stopping the timer. As a simple suggestion, you could just make the text area (Company/Project/Task, above the Play, Pause, Stop buttons) of the semi-transparent time clickable (or double click?) so it would bring back up the dialog without stopping the timer, then I could add a few notes on progress/steps completed and hit OK to continue working. Basically, it is like 'pause' but you don't end up with multiple Task entries for the same Task. Another way to implement this is as a user preference - in options they could choose between the existing functionality for the Pause button or what I have described above. Hopefully I made sense there. Thanks! - Jeremy

Several additional suggestions, now that I have been using the timer and software itself more.
1. I would like to the software to "remember" some default values with the customer, project and task. Every time I open the software or add a new task it seems I have to make these selections. Since I am tracking activity for a single customer and project at this time, I would like to see the software "remember" the last entries and have them come up as a default value, requiring me only to enter the specific task.
2. I there some way to skip the log in process? I would like it just to be ready after I boot up my notebook without requiring any input from me.
3. Again, it would be nice if there were some default values used in the table view. For example, I bill on a monthly basis, so I either want the current or past month. I think it should come up in the last configuration so you don't have to enter that range every time.
4. Does ETT shut itself off? It seems that when I leave the computer for a day or so, I have to reload ETT, even though the computer was not shut down. My notebook is in a home office where security is not an issue. So I do not turn off my computer most of the time, and would like ETT to stay open for me to add tasks that occur randomly throughout the day, weekend, and frequently in the evening. If I have this setup to somehow turn itself off after a period of inactivity, I would like to know how to change that.
Thanks. I am glad to have the opportunity to make some suggestions.

Oт behalf of ETT support, thank you for valuable suggestions. We do agree that invoicing has a lot to be improved, and this is being looked into.
Now, a few hints:
<<1. I would like to the software to "remember" some default values with the customer, project and task. Every time I open the software or add a new task it seems I have to make these selections. Since I am tracking activity for a single customer and project at this time, I would like to see the software "remember" the last entries and have them come up as a default value, requiring me only to enter the specific task.>>
The rule of thumb: use the tree. If you selected a task on the tree, which can be fully expanded so all tasks are there for selecting, invoking Timer would result in the task being preselected for timing. In my view, it is the quickest way. Similarly, use Quick Logger for logging after selecting a task on the tree. It is quicker and handier.
<<2. Is there some way to skip the log in process? I would like it just to be ready after I boot up my notebook without requiring any input from me.>>
Of course there is. Simply tick Remember me and next time you will be taken through w/o any action on your part. To bring back the login window, simply uncheck Remember me in Options > My user details. As for automatic loading, put ETT into Start up folder.
<<3. Again, it would be nice if there were some default values used in the table view. For example, I bill on a monthly basis, so I either want the current or past month. I think it should come up in the last configuration so you don't have to enter that range every time.>>
It seems all is heading toward leaving the grid for 'viewing only' with logging itself put in the hands of Quick Logger. Quick Logger is planned to become efficient enough to allow you to do most things about logging time without actually opening the main program's window.

To eugsam...
Thanks for the reply. I will try your suggestions.
I still need some help with the invoicing - at least the ability to print a detailed invoice that has the items ordered chronologically, which is not happening now. Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

I'd like to see the time entries automatically marked as invoiced once they are invoiced. This will mean there is no need to worry about invoicing that time again that month. [please correct me if this i already in the app]. I have a lot of projects each month ranging from 2 days to 4weeks, so it would be good just to do progress invoices on a task and the site will only invoice the unbilled items to that date from the last time entry that was invoiced.
Also, if a task has a set amount on it, unless I add time to it it does not bill the time?
Other than that, it is a great piece of software that I will ecommend to fellow contractors.

Hi! Thanks for your feedback.
Marking entries as invoiced is in the pipeline. It is going to be a feature in version 5.0. Scheduled for release early in the fall.

It would be very helpful to support Dragging and Dropping of complete Task Sub-Trees from one branch to another and also to a Branch in another Project. In my work a Task assigned to a particular Project or Task Sub-Tree often runs into a deadlock that prevents it from continuing under the Branch that it is a member of. However, that same Task Sub-Tree often contains work that is moved to another Task Sub-Tree or even to another Project for Billing and tracking purposes. For this reason it would be nice to be able to Drag & Drop an entire Task Sub-Tree to another Branch or Project and have it Move to that new location with all of its information intact. It might also be useful to be able to Copy the Sub-Tree when it is the same work performed for several Projects that have separate Billing pathways.

Hello,
As you know, we have a drag-n-drop for COPYING items on the tree.
Please understand that moving items complete with logs is not always practical - at least to many people.
Instead, we propose to have a group operation for time logs allowing you to reassign any group of logs from one task to another, which is as good as MOVING them. this is going to be in version 5.1.0 scheduled to be released soon.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I'm trying out your Easy Time Tracking Pro 5.0.2. It's very nice and has several of the features I need, but doesn't look like it has all of them (discussed later) but I could be missing something.
The window to enter a Description pops up at various times when working w/the program which is a bit extreme to ask for a description so many times, at least for my purposes. I cannot find a need for the multiple popups for this. Once the description is entered, that should suffice I would think.
I find on the Projects and Tasks button there are instructions "To modify, make changes and click SAVE" however there is no SAVE button on the Customer Details screen.
On screen(s) that offer a "Parent" drop down, my Parent drop down is always blank, there is nothing to select from.
None of my services are taxed. Is there a way to set the default so that no tax is ever applied so that I don't have to uncheck the tax box each time?
Is there a way to move the timer around the screen when you set it to show timer? Is there a way to set it's color and perhaps make it non-translucent? I'm having trouble seeing it because of all the things that show behind it due to it being translucent. I realize this can be a good thing, but options for it would be nice.
I don't find a way to input some default text in the email for when I email an invoice. This would be really important for me to have as an option.
I don't see a way to input a default start invoice number. I change my invoice numbers the 1st of every year like this (year first, then invoice #)
2008-0000001 / 2009-0000001 / 2010-0000001 kind of thing.
I don't see anywhere to enter a credit for an account, nor do I see anywhere that "Account Credit" would show up on an invoice.
I don't see anywhere to have past due balances/invoice amounts forward to the next invoice automatically.
It's great to be able to save the invoice, but would be more helpful if this was just automatic. Like when I hit the button to send an email, if it would just save it w/o me having to do this manually.
It would be very helpful if one could set the subject line of the email with their own text such as: (My Company Name) Invoice: (Customer's Name or Company Name) and have my company name and the Client's automatically show up. This would be a HUGE time saver.

Hello, I'm trying out your Easy Time Tracking Pro 5.0.2. I cannot find a need for the multiple popups for this. Once the description is entered, that should suffice I would think. - If you are referring to the description panel, that rolls out when timer is running, you can disable it in Options | General (Enable timer description panel in System Tray).
I find on the Projects and Tasks button there are instructions "To modify, make changes and click SAVE" however there is no SAVE button on the Customer Details screen. - There is a Save button, left of Cancel, right below the checkbox Enabled. On screen(s) that offer a "Parent" drop down, my Parent drop down is always blank, there is nothing to select from. - The Parent drop-down in the Add Task screen, will have values only if the project you add a task to has some other tasks at the moment.
None of my services are taxed. Is there a way to set the default so that no tax is ever applied so that I don't have to uncheck the tax box each time? - Simply set both tax rates equal to 0, also clear the box Mark taxable entries on invoices with 'T' in Customize – as a result, there will be no difference whether your logs taxable or not.
Is there a way to move the timer around the screen when you set it to show timer? Is there a way to set it's color and perhaps make it non-translucent? I'm having trouble seeing it because of all the things that show behind it due to it being translucent. I realize this can be a good thing, but options for it would be nice. - You can move the timer freely around the screen using mouse dragging. Just click and hold down the mouse button, and drag the window to any place.
I don't find a way to input some default text in the email for when I email an invoice. This would be really important for me to have as an option. - The program doesn’t send emails itself, it uses Microsoft Outlook for this purpose. Therefore, you should set up the latter to insert a signature automatically when a new message is created.
I don't see a way to input a default start invoice number. I change my invoice numbers the 1st of every year like this (year first, then invoice #) 2008-0000001 / 2009-0000001 / 2010-0000001 kind of thing. - Try this: Create an invoice, type in 2008-000001 in Invoice #. Click Save. Now create another one, it should have a number of 2008-0000002.
I don't see anywhere to enter a credit for an account, nor do I see anywhere that "Account Credit" would show up on an invoice. - This feature is in the pipeline.
I don't see anywhere to have past due balances/invoice amounts forward to the next invoice automatically. - This feature is in the pipeline.
It's great to be able to save the invoice, but would be more helpful if this was just automatic. Like when I hit the button to send an email, if it would just save it w/o me having to do this manually. - Some people find automatic action not friendly. Also, you may have a special folder to store your invoices in.It would be very helpful if one could set the subject line of the email with their own text such as: (My Company Name) Invoice: (Customer's Name or Company Name) and have my company name and the Client's automatically show up. This would be a HUGE time saver. - This is discussed above. Please refer to Microsoft Outlook’s manual on how to create a signature.

Guys, you completely went backwards in 6.0.1. The timer is now so HUGE that it gets in the way of everything. It no longer fits nicely out of the way in the corner because it takes up like 1/4 of the screen. What happened? In our office, we ALL uninstalled and went back to 5.2 and won't be upgrading until this issue is resolved.
